Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 October 2026

Working draft — not yet legal advice. Written for how Yaarzi actually works today. Text in [highlighted brackets] must be supplied by Yaarzi, and the whole document must be reviewed by Indian counsel before launch. Publishing it does not by itself make Yaarzi compliant with any law or standard.

Yaarzi helps adults in India book verified companions for social experiences. To do that safely we need some personal information — including, if you verify your identity, your Aadhaar details shared through DigiLocker (we keep your name and the last 4 digits only) and a short live face check (Live Face Verification). This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how to exercise your rights.

Who we are

Yaarzi is operated by [registered legal name of the company], [registered office address](“Yaarzi”, “we”). For this policy we are the data fiduciary for your personal data. Contact us at [privacy contact email].

What we collect

When you create an account

  • Email address, mobile number, city, PIN code and country (India).
  • Your name, if you give it, and whether you want to book or to become a Raahi.
  • Your confirmation that you are 18 or over, and when you accepted these terms.
  • Your password — stored only as a one-way hash. We cannot see it.

Your profile

  • Display name, date of birth, gender, city and sector or locality.
  • What you do, your field, interests and a short bio.
  • Instagram username, if you add it. It is private and never shown to other members.
  • Your profile photo, and whether you have opted in to offer companionship.

Identity verification

  • Aadhaar details shared by you through DigiLocker: we keep your name, date of birth and the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number, never the full number, your address or the document. We do not accept photos of PAN, passport, driving licence, voter ID or other documents.
  • A short live face check taken in the app (Live Face Verification).
  • The results of the checks we run, when they ran, and any decision and note from a reviewer.
  • When you gave consent to these checks, and which version of the consent text you agreed to.

Plans and bookings

  • The plans you post: service, city, area, destination, date and time, duration, group size, notes, your companion preference and your exact meeting point.
  • Offers, bookings, their status history, cancellations, disputes and the reasons given.
  • Prices, commission and refund amounts for each booking.

Payments

Online payments are not switched on yet; bookings currently use a clearly-labelled test mode in which no payment details are collected. When a payment gateway is connected, we will receive transaction references, amounts and status from [payment gateway name]. We never receive or store card numbers, CVVs, UPI PINs or bank passwords.

Reviews, reports and support

Reviews you write and receive, reports you make, people you block, and messages to our support team.

Security and technical data

  • Sign-in sessions (stored as hashed tokens), with the IP address and browser that created them.
  • A log of security-relevant actions — such as sign-ins, verification decisions, cancellations and administrator actions — with the time and IP address. Passwords, tokens and documents are never logged.

How identity verification uses your images

We ask for your explicit consent before any identity check. With your consent we:

  1. check that your ID is an original document (not a screenshot, print-out or edited image) and that it shows you are 18 or over;
  2. check that it is a live person in front of the camera (not a photo of a photo, a screen or a mask); and
  3. compare your face with the photo on your ID and with your profile photo.

Aadhaar sharing and the live check are done through our verification partner, Digio. The comparison of your face with your profile photo and with your Aadhaar photo runs on Yaarzi’s own servers using open-source face-matching software, so your images are not sent to any other company for it.[Confirm the server location (recommended: Mumbai, India)]. Digio gives us your Aadhaar photo only for this comparison: we keep it encrypted and delete it right after the check (within 2 hours at most). When every check clearly matches, your profile may be approved automatically; when a result is uncertain, a trained member of our team compares the images instead. We never approve anyone on an uncertain result, and you can ask for a person to review any automatic decision.

We use these images and results only to verify you and to investigate fraud or safety reports about the account. We do not use them for advertising, and we do not sell them.

What other members can see

Cookies

We use one strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in. It cannot be read by scripts on the page. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. If that changes, we will update this policy and ask where required.

How long we keep it

DataKept for
Account and profileWhile your account is open, then deleted within [period].
Face check image[period after the verification decision], then deleted. The decision itself is kept so we don’t ask you again.
Booking, payment, refund and payout records[period required by tax and accounting law].
Reports, disputes and moderation records[period], or longer if needed for an ongoing investigation or legal claim.
Security logs[period].

How we protect it

Passwords are hashed; sign-in cookies are inaccessible to page scripts; verification images and private photos are served only to their owner and authorised reviewers, never from a public address; access to administrator tools is limited to staff accounts and every administrator action is logged. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Your rights

You can:

  • see and correct most of your data yourself in your workspace;
  • ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and who we have shared it with;
  • ask us to correct, complete or delete your data;
  • withdraw consent to identity checks at any time (you will then not be verified);
  • nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become unable to; and
  • complain to us, and then to the Data Protection Board of India.

To make a request, use Help & safety → Contact support in your workspace and choose “My data”, or email [privacy contact email]. We will respond within [period]. Some records (for example, financial records) must be kept for a time even after you ask us to delete them; we will tell you when this applies.

Adults only

Yaarzi is only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly process the data of anyone under 18. If an ID shows that the holder is under 18, the account cannot be verified. If you believe a child is using Yaarzi, contact us and we will act on it.

Grievance officer and contact

Grievance officer: [name], [email], [postal address]. We acknowledge grievances within[period] and resolve them within [period].

Changes to this policy

We will post changes here and update the date above. Significant changes will be notified in the app.
